General Piercing care
Updates coming soon!
1. Always wash your hands before handling piercing! Unclean hands are the most common way to transmit bacteria to your piercing. Never pick at the area with your finger nails.
2. Once daily use a liquid antibacterial soap low in alcohol and perfumes such as Provon Medicated soap to wash around your piercing. Avoid getting the soap directly into the piercing this is easy, just dont move the jewelry during this step. This will soften material built up on the opening of the piercing. At this point gently remove material from the jewelry before attempting to move it. Move the jewelry in opposite directions no more than twice while Rinsing the area with sterile, preserved saline solution. Be gentle do not move the jewelry more than twice to rinse as excessive cleaning will irritate and slow your healing.
3. Three times daily use a sterile, preserved, ph balanced saline solution such as H2-Ocean Saline spray to rinse the piercing clean. Use a soft Q-tip soaked with saline to moisten and soften any material crystallized on or around the piercing. Take good care not pick the material away dry. Only remove this material softened as to avoid damaging healing tissue. Then dispose of soiled Q-tip.
4. Use another Q-tip soaked in saline to give a gentle rinse while manipulating the jewelry.
5. Stop back in 6 weeks to visit your body piercer to check how you are doing. If you have any symptoms such as discoloration, red streaking around the area, pain, odor, excess swelling, or anything you think unusual stop in and let use take a look. It is not possible to give extra care instruction with out seeing what the problem may be.
WARNING! Things to Avoid.
1. Never use alcohol or peroxide on any piercing! These products will cause scaring and prolong the healing.
2. Do not apply makeup or allow hair care products to come into contact with your healing piercing.
3. Never use any petroleum-based ointment. Petroleum acts as a source of food for many bacteria types such as yeast and staff.
4. Physical irritation from tight pants, skirts, or pantyhose is very common and can cause problems like rejection of the jewelry from the skin.
5. Avoid oral contact and body fluids from others during the first 3 to 4 months. Not only can you get a bacterial infection but are at risk of catching an incurable virus.
